Pirates held by Platinum Stars
Orlando Pirates’ poor form at home continued after they were held to a 1 all draw by Platinum Stars at the Orlando stadium.
Platinum stars started the encounter brightly with early pressure seeing visitors win two early corners and a free-kick.
Despite the enterprising play by Stars in the early stages, it was Pirates who opened the scoring courtesy of Issa Sarr who shot into the top right corner.
Pirates were lucky not to concede a penalty 1 minute from half time after a Mpontsahne blunder as the contest went to the oranges with the sea robbers 1 nil in front.
Platinum stars showed positive intent in the second half and were rewarded for their enterprising play when Ndumiso Mabena headed in an equaliser in the 49th minute.
Orlando Pirates almost regained the lead when a Kevin Erasmus corner was headed wide by Issa Sarr. The Bucaneers would find themselves with a numerical advantage after Vuyo Mere was red carded for a second bookable offence with 25 minutes to play.
The sea robbers were however unable to capitalise on their numerical advantage as they were held to a 1 all draw. The results added pressure on Eric Tinkler who has come under severe criticism for fans in recent weeks.
