Orlando Pirates Club Statement:

Orlando Pirates Football Club can confirm that it has parted ways with Coach Fadlu Davids.

Davids – 41 who joined the organisation in 2019 as an Assistant Coach, will leave the Club upon the expiration of his contract at the end of this month.

Ever professional and always disciplined in his approach, Mr Davids leaves the Club having performed his duties in an exemplary manner.

Meanwhile, the Club can also confirm the departure of Head Performance Analyst Darian Wilken.

Mr Wilken has expressed his intention to head into coaching which is a decision the Club respects and supports. There is no doubt that he will be an asset to the South African football industry one day.

On behalf of the Club, we would like to wish both Mr Davids and Mr Wilken all the best in their future endeavours.

Davids and his colleague co-coach Mandla Ncikazi have been one of the main subjects on media with critics questioning their coaching skills and the decisions they take.

Pirates recently lost to RS Berkane of Morroco in the CAF Confederation Cup final that was held in Nigeria towards the end of May. Again, the Buccaneers had a chance to qualify for the next season’s CAF Champions League or Confederation Cup but fell short in both.

Ncikazi admitting failure

Ncikazi admitted that they failed to meet the club’s expectations. “Pirates is about cups, it is about trophies, the mandate is clear. We didn’t meet the mandate, so that’s not a successful season even though we don’t want to highlight it, but everybody knows the truth. We had an agenda front of us that we had to fulfil it,” Ncikazi told the media at Orlando Stadium.

“But for any other club, smaller club, for what we have done until now, it would be a good performance, but for Pirates, we have not met the objectives, we have failed. Pirates belong up there, and anything less than that, you have failed.”

“For me now, it is about digesting the poor performance and poor results and wait. Whatever happens next will happen.

“It is a disappointing result. Supporters, fans and management of Pirates do not deserve this. The result summed up not a very successful season by the team and one has to apologise for such a season. There is no justification of anything.
