Pitso Mosimane Tipped for Zamalek Job Amid African Coaching Carousel

Veteran South African coach Pitso Mosimane has once again emerged as a frontrunner for a high-profile managerial position on the continent, with reports suggesting he has been recommended for the head coach role at Egyptian giants Zamalek SC.

Mosimane, who parted ways with Iranian club Esteghlal FC earlier this year, has been without a job in recent months. However, the CAF Champions League-winning tactician continues to attract interest across both club and international football spheres. Recent reports have also linked him with the Libya national team, highlighting his continued relevance and appeal on the African football scene.

With a series of managerial changes sweeping through the continent, Mosimane’s name is back in the spotlight. North African powerhouses such as Wydad Athletic Club, Al Ahly, and Zamalek have all undergone coaching changes, creating a ripple of speculation around potential successors.

According to former Zamalek and Egyptian national team captain Ahmed Hassan, intermediaries have proposed Mosimane’s name to Zamalek’s management following the club’s recent dismissal of Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro.

In a post shared on social media, Hassan revealed: “Exclusive – Zamalek’s management has received a recommendation from some intermediaries to appoint Pitso Mosimane as head coach starting from next season.”

While no official talks have been held yet, Mosimane’s track record in African football — particularly in Egypt — positions him as a strong candidate. He led Al Ahly to consecutive CAF Champions League titles and multiple domestic honours, becoming one of the few foreign coaches to earn widespread respect among Egyptian fans and pundits alike.

Despite the speculation, there are some lingering concerns about Zamalek’s coaching environment. Former Espérance de Tunis coach Laurentiu Reghecampf recently disclosed that he turned down an offer from Zamalek earlier this year after learning of the club’s inconsistent salary payments — an issue that could influence Mosimane’s decision should formal negotiations begin.

As the coaching carousel continues to turn across Africa, Pitso Mosimane remains a name synonymous with success. Whether he returns to the Egyptian Premier League or takes up a national team role, his next move will be closely watched across the footballing world.
