Polokwane City Kick Off Off-Season With Key Defender Signing From Pretoria Callies

Polokwane City have made a strong statement to begin their off-season preparations by securing their first signing ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. The Limpopo-based club has snapped up defender Mpho Mvundlela from Pretoria Callies, a side that finished in the lower half of the Motsepe Foundation Championship last season.

Pretoria Callies ended the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season in seventh place, an impressive achievement that earned them qualification for next season’s MTN 8 tournament. With 34 points collected from 28 games, Callies punched above their weight and will face defending champions Orlando Pirates in the MTN 8 quarterfinals.

Sources close to Polokwane City have revealed that the club’s recruitment drive does not stop with Mvundlela. They are actively pursuing two additional Pretoria Callies players — midfielder Moremi Seketso and defender Olerato Mandi — as part of their plan to strengthen the squad further.

“Polokwane City is always doing their business away from the media. They are busy signing a few players. Mvundlela from Pretoria Callies has already signed, whilst two more players from Callies are coming,” confirmed an insider familiar with the club’s transfer activities.

Owned by Johnny Mogaladi, Polokwane City are also reportedly open to offers for midfielder Oswin Appollis. The Bafana Bafana attacker has attracted interest from Gauteng giants and several North African clubs, highlighting his growing profile.

Appollis is expected to start for the South African national team in their upcoming international friendly against Mozambique in Polokwane on Tuesday at 19:30, an opportunity to showcase his talents further on the international stage.

As Polokwane City prepare for a new season that promises stiff competition, especially with a tough MTN 8 quarterfinal against Orlando Pirates looming, these early signings signal the club’s ambition to build a squad capable of challenging for honours and securing a strong league position. Fans will be eager to see how the new recruits adapt and contribute to the team’s goals in the months ahead.
