Polokwane City relegated Black Leopards go to playoffs. Polokwane City lost their PSL status not on the final day, but through the course of the season. The Limpopo outfit looked poor throughout and their fate was sealed by Wits on Saturday.

Bidvest Wits went down to 10-men, but still punished their opponents. The 3-1 defeat showed why Polokwane are the season’s bottom team. Chigova was heroic in goal. But even his most sturgeon efforts were not enough to compensate for an extremely leaky defence.

Black Leopards were unfortunate to face a Mamelodi Sundowns with a lot to play for. Mongezi Bobe’s side were on the end of a 3-0 drubbing. They will now fight for their place in the PSL next season.

The playoffs are a battlefield with both Ajax Cape Town and Tshakuma F.C hungry for Premiership football.

After the defeat to Sundowns, Mongezi Bobe seeked empathy for his Black Leopards side as they now have to play even more football. This follows a string of ABSA Premiership games in a short space of time.

Unlike Polokwane City, Black Leopards have an opportunity to resurrect their PSL status for the 2020/2021 season. Fatigue will be a huge factor in the playoffs.

Black Leopards are stronger than both Ajax Cape Town and Tshakuma F.C. The issue is that Black Leopards are more fatigued than their playoff opponents.

The playoffs are a cruel part of the game, as both Tshakuma and Ajax could simply fail to make it. Failure to make it is sad because both outfits have had stellar campaigns in the NFD.

Many people want the playoffs to be abolished and for teams like Black Leopards to go straight down with Polokwane City. This is because Black Leopards are given an opportunity to stay in the division, even if they’re second last.
