Premier League Managers Call for More Substitutions as Injuries Grow! Managers Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp and Ole Gunnar Solksjaer all called for changes in the Premier League.
This follows a pattern of injuries building up in the league. The managers have called for the Premier League to return to 5 substitutes.
This was used in the bio bubble when football returned but the Premier League reverted to 3 substitutes per game when the new season started.
This is opposite to the other leagues in Europe, as they continue to deploy 5 substitutes per game. Especially because Champions League games are played on a weekly basis.
This is all because of the time that was lost during lockdown.
Ole Gunnar Solksjaer was visibly angry after his side beat Everton 3-1 on Saturday.
“The kick-off time set us up to fail,” a livid Solskjaer said.
“We have been to Turkey, played loads of games this season already, we got back Thursday morning and we are playing Saturday lunchtime, it’s an absolute shamble.”
Yesterday (8 November 2020) Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola shared the same sentiment.
“The boys are on the edge. No team on a Wednesday night should have the 12:30 kick-off on Saturday.
“Sunday – no problem. Not the 12:30 because that is a complete killer. You wake up and play football. This is the recovery phase.
“The Premier League has to change. Sky, BT, you – everyone must talk to each other.
“You want good football? Give the boys a few hours more rest.” Klopp told BBC Sport.
Pep Guardiola believes that the league thinks they are special.
“Trent Alexander-Arnold: international English player, now injured. Here, we believe we are more special. We don’t protect the players, so that is why it is a disaster.” Guardiola said.
