PSL Announces 2024/25 End-of-Season Awards Nominees After Long-Awaited Reveal

After weeks of anticipation, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) has finally released the list of nominees for the prestigious 2024/25 End-of-Season Awards. The announcement had been delayed to accommodate Mamelodi Sundowns’ participation in the FIFA Club World Cup held in the United States, but excitement has now shifted firmly to the standout individuals who lit up the South African football scene over the past campaign.

The awards, which celebrate excellence across the Motsepe Foundation Championship, DStv Diski Challenge, and the match officiating departments, will once again spotlight the country’s top emerging talent and most consistent performers.

Motsepe Foundation Championship: Players’ Player of the Season

This coveted award will be contested by Banele Hlophe of JDR Stars, Joslin Kamatuka from Durban City, and Muzomuhle Khanyi of Hungry Lions. All three players have delivered exceptional individual seasons and were pivotal in their respective clubs’ performances.

Motsepe Foundation Goalkeeper of the Season

Goalkeepers who kept things tight at the back are also in the spotlight. Emile Lako (Casric Stars), Sekhoane Moerane (Orbit College), and Dumisani Msibi (Durban City) make up the shortlist for their outstanding displays between the posts.

Motsepe Foundation Young Player of the Season

This award aims to celebrate rising stars who have shown maturity beyond their years. The nominees include Luke Baartman of Cape Town Spurs, Teboho Lekhatla from Casric Stars, and Siphamandla Mhlongo of Milford FC—all of whom have emerged as future stars of South African football.

DStv Diski Challenge Player of the Season

The youth development platform has once again produced top-tier talent. Gomolemo Kekana (Mamelodi Sundowns), Ntandoyenkosi Nkosi (Kaizer Chiefs), and Tylon Smith (Stellenbosch FC) are the standout performers in the league’s key development competition.

Match Officiating Awards

Match officials also get their well-deserved recognition. The Referee of the Season category includes Luxolo Badi, Masixole Bambiso, and Olani Kwinda, all praised for consistency and command of the game.

In the Assistant Referee of the Season category, Kgara Mokoena, Romario Phiri, and Khamusi Razwimisani have earned nods for their sharp decision-making and professionalism throughout the campaign.

With more announcements expected to follow, anticipation continues to build ahead of the official awards ceremony. As the PSL celebrates the best of the 2024/25 season, all eyes will now turn to who walks away with top honours in what has been a highly competitive football year.
