The MTN 8 got the 2021/2022 local season up and running on Saturday afternoon. The top 8 quarterfinals are the traditional curtain raiser in South African football.
The 2020/2021 season only finished on the 5th of June 2021. Fast forward to August 2021, and we’re already resuming with the latest instalment of local football.

Striker Ruzaigh Gamaldien scored a lovely brace in the first half to help his team qualify. Midfielder Kabelo Dlamini pulled one goal back from the penalty spot, but the hosts couldn’t engineer an equaliser as they crash out at the quarterfinal stages.

The game went to penalties where Sundowns won a relatively tight affair.
The last quarterfinal saw AmaZulu host Cape Town City. They Cityzens win the game 2-1 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
