Pyramids FC Request Foreign Referees for Crucial Clashes Against Al Ahly and Zamalek

Egyptian Premier League leaders Pyramids FC have officially requested the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) to appoint foreign referees for their upcoming high stakes matches against Al Ahly and Zamalek.

A Critical Stage in the League

This request comes as the league enters its newly introduced second phase, where the top nine teams from the regular season compete in a mini-league to determine the champions. Meanwhile, the bottom nine sides battle to avoid relegation.

Pyramids FC, who finished atop the initial phase with 42 points, are determined to continue their impressive form in pursuit of their first-ever league title. Their clashes against Egyptian giants Al Ahly and Zamalek will be crucial in their title challenge, and the club is seeking to ensure fairness in officiating by calling for neutral referees.

Foreign Referees a Common Trend

The practice of bringing in foreign officials for major matches in Egypt is not new, with European referees often overseeing high-profile fixtures, particularly the Cairo derby between Al Ahly and Zamalek. Pyramids FC are hoping for the same treatment in their matches against the two most successful clubs in Egyptian football.

According to reports from WinWin, any club requesting non-Egyptian referees must submit their request at least 15 days before the match. Pyramids FC are set to face Marcel Koller’s Al Ahly on 12 April before taking on Jose Peseiro’s Zamalek on 13 May.

Pyramids FC’s Title Ambitions

After years of heavy investment, Pyramids FC are closer than ever to securing their first Egyptian Premier League title. Their request for foreign referees suggests a desire to eliminate any controversy in what could be the most defining matches of their season.

With the battle for the championship intensifying, all eyes will be on whether the EFA grants their request and how the league’s final phase unfolds.
