The Spanish giants finished the job that they started at Anfield three weeks ago. Ballon d’Or holder Karim Benzema scored the only goal of the game in the second half to complete the overall victory.

“Well, this was a tough game, just like the first leg.” Karim Benzema told UEFA.

“Liverpool is a big team with a lot of quality, but we started the game well, with a lot of respect for them and I think that’s key in nig games. Tonight, we’re through to the quarters so we’re very happy and we go again.

“We’re a football team that always wants to do more and is ambitious and that’s what we show on the pitch because these are tough games. As I’ve always said, if we show character and ambition, we can do great things.

“I don’t mind [who we play] because they’re all strong teams. To get to the final you have to play against the best and now only the best teams are left, so I don’t mind which team we get.”

Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp admitted that their opponents deserved to go through.

“If you want to go through you need a special performance – we couldn’t put in a special performance tonight. The right team went through, that’s what we have to admit.” He spoke.
