Widespread reports have suggested that Chippa United have sacked Morgan Mammila as their head coach. He will return to his previous role of being the club administrator.

This follows yet another loss, this time to Swallows FC. They are now on the worst run of form in the DSTV Premiership this season.

Mammila replaced Daine Klate last year, where he started off quite well, winning four matches in a row.

“Attempts to get Mammila to confirm his departure from the Gqeberha outfit were unsuccessful as his phone rang unanswered, however it is understood the veteran administrator turned coach was on his way to Limpopo.” Mazola Molefe of SABC Sport reported.

“Mammila took over from Daine Klate in September last year and promised expansive football to the Chippa fans – and initially the changes enforced by chairman Siviwe ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi seem to do the trick.”

After the loss this weekend, Mammila calmly reassured supporters that they would stave off the drop.

“We need to panic, you can see, the log doesn’t lie, we number 13 and on 24 [points], others are 25, others are [on] 26, if you not winning it’s a problem,” Mammila spoke.

“We need to address this, and one thing is for sure, if the coming match I’m not winning, it means, huh uh… I’m not going to stand and watch this team [failing].

“Remember I’m a manager, I’m a businessman, I’m a person who is fair and honest, if I don’t win against my competitors then there’s trouble, then I’m not a man who’s trouble.

“Let’s be honest, if I don’t win against AmaZulu, what am I hear for then, to relegate the team? No, no, no – I think I’ve done my part. Football is about winning, and if you’re not winning and my direct competitors are, it’s a problem.

“My aim is to protect this team, to protect this multi-million status, this team belongs to my friend and I’m a good friend, I won’t let my friend lose the status.”
