Orlando Pirates are said to be looking to add yet another goalkeeper to their ranks. This follows their recent troubles in the goalkeeping department.
It is no secret that The Buccaneers have struggled to effectively fill that position. Their number 1 is Ghana international Richard Ofori.
However, the former Maritzburg United goalminder has been riddled with injuries since joining The Bucs in 2020. Siyabonga Mpontshane has deputised in goal during his absence.
The veteran has struggled in goals this season, with his worst moment being Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Yusuf Maart scoring against him from his own half in the Soweto Derby in October.
Pirates acquired the services of Sipho Chaine from Royal AM in the last transfer window. He made his debut against Cape Town City last weekend, conceding twice as they lost.
“[Siyabonga] Mpontshane is good, but you can see that age is catching up and he is very low on confidence, while Sipho [Chaine] still has some way to go before he can be a regular,” an insider close to the situation revealed to Phakaaathi.
“They want a keeper who will come in and take command of the position and bring the required confidence to the whole team. We all know that when a keeper is not doing well, it filters down to the entire team and that has been the case here.
“The scouts are now working overtime to try and identify a keeper who can solve this problem. They have even been given the green light to look beyond our borders for the right man,” the insider revealed.
