Richards Bay Crush Chippa United 4-1 to Reach Carling Knockout Quarterfinals

Richards Bay produced a commanding performance to beat Chippa United 4-1 in the Carling Knockout round of 16 at uMhlathuze Stadium on Sunday. Knox Mutizwa scored twice to lead the Natal Rich Boyz into the quarterfinals alongside Marumo Gallants, Golden Arrows, TS Galaxy, Orlando Pirates, and Durban City. The draw will be completed with the winners of Stellenbosch FC vs Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu FC vs Magesi FC.
The first half set the tone for the match, with four of the five goals scored in an entertaining opening period. Richards Bay capitalized on Chippa’s defensive lapses to establish a strong lead. The visitors initially responded, but the hosts’ quick attacks proved decisive.
Richards Bay started quickly, opening the scoring in the fourth minute. Siyabonga Nzama’s effort was blocked by goalkeeper Seun Ndlovu, but the rebound fell to Ntlonelo Bomelo, who slotted home from close range. Just three minutes later, Bay doubled their advantage. Knox Mutizwa connected with Wandile Ngema’s in-swinging corner to head past Stanley Nwabali for 2-0.
Chippa United responded in the 26th minute. Bienvenu Eva Nga delivered a low cross from the right, allowing Azola Tshobeni to tap in and reduce the deficit to 2-1. Richards Bay quickly regained control when Bomelo fed Mutizwa in the 37th minute, restoring the two-goal lead before halftime.
In the second half, Chippa introduced Bandile Dlamini and Thabang Molaoa to increase attacking pressure. Justice Figuareido’s header tested Ian Otieno but failed to trouble the goalkeeper. Richards Bay defended well and maintained counter-attacking threats. Substitute Lundi Mahala sealed the 4-1 win in injury time, racing down the left and finishing past Nwabali.
