PICS! Njabulo Ngcobo Enjoys Off-Season By Training With Kids Back Home

The first season of Njabulo Ngcobo at Kaizer Chiefs didn’t probably turn out as many expected with him below par despite coming to Amakhosi with a PSL Defender of the Season status of the previous season when he was still at Swallows.

He wasn’t able to cement his place at the back and subsequently lost his place on the National Team. He featured 14 games across all competitions. The experienced Cardoso and Erick Mathoho were the most preferred over him.

Now that the season is closed, while some went on vacations, he just chose to stay home in Umthwalume, KwaZulu-Natal. He posted on social media a picture of himself and kids where they seem to be resting after training.

One of the disturbances in Ngcobo’s first one was the famous outburst when he reacted angrily after being substituted when Chiefs played Golden Arrows in Durban before the end of the season.

The former Uthongathi and Swallows FC player will be hoping to get more game time under the new leadership of Arthur Zwane and Dillon Sheppard. Zwane seems to believe in the new blood and it could the season that Ngcobo turn things around.

However, Ngcobo issued an apology and the club released a statement with the 28-year-old admitting that he was wrong. Where many were expecting that he was probably going to be handed a suspension, Amakhosi shoved it under the capert.

Statement and Ngcobo’s statement:

Kaizer Chiefs defender Njabulo Ngcobo has issued an unreserved apology to everyone at Kaizer Chiefs for his reaction at being substituted during Wednesday’s game between Chiefs and Lamontville Golden Arrows in KwaMashu.

“I would like to sincerely apologise to coach Arthur Zwane, coach Dillon Sheppard, coach Lee Baxter, my teammates, Kaizer Chiefs management and all Amakhosi supporters for not shaking the coach’s hand and for the outburst that followed after being taken off. I take full responsibility for my actions and such should not be repeated.”

The player was remorseful after cooling down and realising how bad his actions were. He also saw the reaction that followed in the news and social media.

“I am not proud of what I did,” added Ngcobo. “It was a heat of the moment thing because I made some costly mistakes during the match and it’s not nice knowing that you’ve let the team down as a player, but that does not justify any of my actions. I promise to do better in the future.”

Coach Arthur Zwane acknowledged the apology, saying, “I understand that Mr Ngcobo’s emotions got the better of him and it happens in our game. We will try and work with all the players to make them understand where they are, because everyone is watching and this brand demands that we all act professionally on and off the field.”

The rest of the matter will be discussed and dealt with through internal process by the Club’s football management.
