SuperSport United beat Maritzburg United 1-0 in the Nedbank Cup yesterday. Captain and goalkeeper Ronwen Williams hopes that this cup can provide some silverware for the club.

Matsatsantsa have not won the league title since 2010, under Gavin Hunt. Since then, they have won several domestic trophies.

This includes the MTN 8, Telkom Knockout and the Nedbank Cup. The latter is the only trophy the Pretoria side can claim this season.

Especially as the DSTV Premiership seems like a forgone conclusion, because of the manner Mamelodi Sundowns are pummelling through victories.

“We’ve been known to be Cup specialist but let ourselves down the last two years, the Nedbank gives us another opportunity to win some silverware.” Williams said before they took on Maritzburg United.

“It’s going to be tough, but we need soldiers with big hearts out there.

“In Cup matches you have one chance to advance, go all out and try and win the game. Cup games are about being in the next round, so whatever it takes we need to be there.”

The club recently lost talisman and Bafana Bafana midfielder Teboho Mokoena to Mamelodi Sundowns.

“Tebza [Teboho Mokoena] served the club with extinction (distinction). He has done very well for the team and for himself.

“Humble boy with a very bright future and obviously a big loss to the team. We all wished him well and thanked him for his service.” He added.
