Grant Kekana would have also participated had it not been for injury.

Williams graduated from the SuperSport United academy as an 18-year-old in 2010. He was given his debut by current Matsatsantsa boss Gavin Hunt.

At 30 years of age, he decided to seek pastures new and left in the transfer window.

“There was a lot of emotions,” Williams told the Mamelodi Sundowns media.

“First time playing against SuperSport United in my life, in my career, but I had a job to do for my new team and I had to put my personal emotions aside and do a job for my team. I think I done clearly well, I’m just glad that we’re onto the next round.

“I think they had one or two chances, obviously they were sitting back, they were looking to hit us on the counter with their speed up front. I think we managed it well, I didn’t have too many saves to make.

“It was a good reflection on the performance of the team. I think we could’ve wrapped it up in the first half with the chances we created, but in saying that, I think we did well.”
