Netherlands beat the USA 3-1 in their 2022 FIFA World Cup quarterfinal encounter. The Dutch became the first team in the quarterfinal of this edition’s competition.

Ons Oranje were the favourites heading into this encounter. The Netherlands enjoyed a relatively smooth group stage tournament.

Striker Memphis Depay gave the Dutch the lead in the first half. Full back Daley Blind doubled their lead just before the halftime whistle.

The Americans pulled one goal back through a fortuitous goal from Haji Wright. Netherlands quickly restored their 2-goal lead after Denzel Dumfries scored for himself, having provided the assists for their first two goals.

“For me the difference between the two teams is that they have a certain quality in their finishing that we don’t have at the moment. We don’t have a Depay right now.” USA coach Gregg Behralter told the FIFA media.

“You saw that we worked on this for the past three years so you could see the progress that we obviously made for a young team,” captain Tyler Adams spoke after the loss.

“We obviously performed really well, and we can be really happy with the performance. But with this being said we still have a lot of progress to make so this next four years will be really, really valuable in terms in just continuing on working on the details of the game.”
