Royal AM Facing Expulsion from the Premier Soccer League

Royal AM are on the brink of being expelled from the Premier Soccer League (PSL) after the club was placed under the control of the South African Revenue Services (SARS) curator. The KwaZulu-Natal-based side, owned by Shauwn Mkhize, is facing this drastic action due to an outstanding tax debt amounting to R40 million.
The financial turmoil has significantly impacted the club’s operations, with reports indicating that an attempted sale to Durban businessman Roy Moodley fell through. Moodley was widely tipped to take over ownership, but the required payment was not made within the stipulated timeframe, forcing the club back onto the market.
In a leaked document circulating on social media, it has been revealed that the PSL executive committee has recommended the cancellation of Royal AM’s membership. This development would mean that the current Betway Premiership season will conclude with only 15 teams instead of the usual 16.
As previously reported, the team finishing in 15th place on the league table will now proceed to the promotion/relegation play-offs. This decision could have significant ramifications for the structure of the league and the teams fighting for survival.
Royal AM’s participation in the current season has been minimal, with the club having only played 11 matches. Their last league fixture was on December 29 against TS Galaxy, further underscoring the extent of their struggles both on and off the pitch.
With the club’s future hanging in the balance, the focus now shifts to whether a last-minute solution can be found to prevent their expulsion or if the PSL will officially proceed with the cancellation of their membership.
