Ruben Amorim Offers Support to Injured Luke Shaw
Ruben Amorim, the head coach of Sporting CP, has expressed his support for Luke Shaw after the Manchester United defender was sidelined once again due to a hamstring injury. Shaw, who had recently made encouraging progress in his recovery, now faces another indefinite period on the sidelines.
Shaw’s recent injury setback occurred just as he was beginning to regain form, having made substitute appearances in three consecutive matches after a lengthy absence. However, on the eve of Manchester United’s crucial match against Arsenal, a hamstring issue emerged, halting his progress. This injury, like others in the past, has once again put Shaw’s season in jeopardy, with no clear return date set.
Over the past nine months, the England international has struggled with a series of muscle injuries, limiting him to just a single start in that time—the Euro 2024 final. His injury history has been a source of frustration for both Shaw and his team, as he has been unable to maintain consistent fitness.
Despite the setbacks, Amorim, who has worked alongside Shaw in the past, has been vocal in his support for the defender. Speaking on Amazon Prime, Amorim praised Shaw’s commitment to his rehabilitation. “What I can say since I arrived, I see him in the medical department working a lot in the gym, working a lot on the pitch,” Amorim shared. “He was losing weight, so he was doing everything. If he continues to do that behaviour, he’s a top, top player, and we need him. No matter how long he will need, I will be with him, we will help him to return.”
Amorim also acknowledged Shaw’s importance to both Manchester United and the England national team. “We are here to help him,” he added, reinforcing that Shaw’s resilience and determination will ultimately aid his recovery.
Looking ahead, Manchester United, who recently suffered a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal, are in desperate need of a positive result. They will face Nottingham Forest on December 7, 2024, in a match that could be crucial for the team’s efforts to climb out of the bottom half of the Premier League standings. With Shaw sidelined once again, United will have to rely on their remaining defenders as they aim to rebuild their momentum.
