Mamelodi Sundowns beat Stellenbosch FC 3-0 in the DSTV Premiership on Wednesday evening. Co-coach Rulani Mokwena was very pleased with what he witnessed.
The champions got back to winning ways in convincing fashion on the day. This is after they dropped points away to Sekhukhune United on Saturday afternoon.
Goals from Neo Maema, Peter Shalulile and new signing Marcelo Allende secured the three points. Allende was only announced and unveiled as a Sundowns player a few hours prior to kick off, before scoring on debut.
“A convincing win against a very good side,” Mokwena told reporters after the match.
“Stellenbosch are well coached with Steve. I’m not only saying that because we beat them, but if you recall even after they beat us [last season] at TUKS we paid them on their due credit.”
“Again, I have to say; a very difficult team, very quick on transition with [Jayden] Adams, [Junior] Mendieta, [Fawaaz] Basadien and particularly when they went to the back three today you could see, but excellent from us. [We had] Andile Jali [who was] exceptional.
“[Teboho Mokoena] Tebza very good today, tactically probably the best player on the pitch. And then the numbers back you up against a team like this, you give back zero chances.
“They only had nine box entries and we had so much control. It was a good performance and a good reaction from the team.” Mokwena stated.
This was their third league win of the campaign after five matches. They sit in second place behind Orlando Pirates who have played a match extra.
They turn their focus to the MTN 8 this weekend. Rulani Mokwena Pleased with The Performance of His Side!
