Rulani Mokwena’s Return Date to Wydad Confirmed After Family Bereavement

Wydad Athletic Club head coach Rulani Mokwena is set to return to Morocco this week after briefly leaving for South Africa to attend a family bereavement.
Mokwena’s Absence and Wydad’s Dominance
The 38-year-old tactician was not on the touchline during Wydad’s emphatic 5-1 victory over SSC Mohammedia this past weekend. He was granted special leave by the club to attend the funeral of his grandmother in Johannesburg, with his assistant, Sinethemba Badela, temporarily taking charge.
Despite Mokwena’s absence, the Red Castle extended their winning streak to five consecutive matches in the Botola Pro Inwi, showcasing their growing dominance in the Moroccan top flight.
Return to Duty
According to reports from Kooora, Mokwena is expected to be back in Morocco by Wednesday and will resume training immediately to prepare Wydad for their upcoming league fixture against COD Meknes.
Meknes proved to be a tricky opponent earlier in the season, defeating the three-time African champions 2-0. Mokwena will now be focused on avenging that loss and securing a sixth consecutive league victory to maintain pressure on table-toppers RS Berkane.
Title Aspirations
Currently sitting in second place, Wydad are in a strong position to challenge for the league title. The upcoming showdown with RS Berkane next weekend could prove decisive in the title race, making Mokwena’s swift return crucial for the club’s ambitions.
With his tactical acumen and leadership, Wydad will be looking to continue their fine form under his guidance as they push for domestic and continental success.
