Rushine De Reuck Eyes PSL Return After Tough Spell in Israel

South African centre-back Rushine De Reuck is exploring a potential return to the DStv Premiership following a difficult loan stint with Israeli side Maccabi Petah Tikva.

The 29-year-old defender joined the Israeli outfit from Mamelodi Sundowns in January 2025 in a bid to gain regular game time. However, things didn’t go as planned for the former Bafana Bafana international. Limited to just four appearances due to injury setbacks and tactical reshuffles, De Reuck struggled to find his footing in the Middle East.

Now, with his future at Sundowns uncertain, De Reuck is eager to reignite his career back in South Africa, where he initially rose to prominence.

According to Siya sources, both Sekhukhune United and Durban City have expressed interest in securing De Reuck’s services ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Sekhukhune United could be a particularly attractive option, as De Reuck previously worked under head coach Eric Tinkler. The familiarity between player and coach might offer the ideal environment for the centre-back to rebuild confidence and reestablish himself as a key figure in South African football.

Meanwhile, Durban City — the club formerly known as Maritzburg United — also presents an intriguing opportunity. It was at this very club where De Reuck made his breakthrough, earning national team call-ups and eventually sealing his high-profile move to Sundowns. A return to familiar surroundings and a club where he is already well-regarded could provide the perfect backdrop for a career reset.

At Mamelodi Sundowns, De Reuck has found himself on the periphery of the squad. With the Brazilians constantly reinforcing their already deep squad, competition for places has made regular minutes hard to come by.

Once viewed as a national team mainstay, De Reuck’s lack of consistent playing time has impacted his international prospects. A move to a club where he’s trusted and central to the team’s plans might be the best route back to the top.

As the 2025/26 season approaches, all eyes will be on De Reuck’s next move — one that could define the next phase of his career and possibly reignite his national team aspirations.
