The South African Football Coaches Association (SAFCA) chairman, Gregory Mashilo, expressed great disappointment in Chippa United. This is as a result of Luc Eymael’s standing in African football.
The Belgian was fired from a job in Tanzania due to racist remarks. He had allegedly labelled supporters of the club as “monkeys and dogs who know nothing about football.”
He was subsequently relieved of his duties after those remarks.
After Chippa fired Lehlohonolo Seema in December, Mpengesi appointed Eymael. The appointment was received with great disapproval from the football fraternity.
Mpengesi reversed the appointment and hired Dan Dance Malesela as the new head coach. It seems Chippa’s love for Luc Eymael hasn’t dissipated as he has been hired as the club’s Technical Advisor.
“I don’t know what to say about Chippa, I feel they undermine South African football and all efforts by FIFA of fighting inequality in our football,” Mashilo told Soccer Laduma.
“It’s a shame, it’s beyond us now and we hope authorities of football will stop this from happening, it’s against our constitution.
“Right now there’s a FIFA campaign to fight against racism and you have a team hiring someone who has made racist remarks. It’s a disgrace and must be stopped.” He concluded.
This is how people reacted to his appointment:
