Samkelo Zwane Determined to Fight for Kaizer Chiefs Spot, Says Agent

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Samkelo Zwane is determined to fight for his place in the squad despite limited game time, his agent Mike Makaab has revealed.
The 23-year-old, who rose through the ranks of the club’s DStv Diski Challenge side, has struggled for minutes this season, making just five appearances in 2025. The arrival of Thabo Cele in January has further restricted his opportunities, with his last appearance coming in February.
Agent Not Concerned—For Now
Speaking about Zwane’s current situation, Makaab explained that while they are not overly concerned yet, they will reassess his future if his playing time does not improve.
“I am close with his father, Eugene. I coached Eugene (at Pirates), so we have a strong relationship. We speak to each other on a regular basis, and obviously, it’s a concern when a football player is not playing,” Makaab said.
“But these are the challenges that we all go through in our lives, and it’s how we react to these challenges that determine how far we go with our career.
“Obviously, it’s important for a young talented player like Samkelo to get game time, but we’ve got to look at the circumstances and we’ve got to hope that those circumstances change. If they don’t, then there is a decision that has to be made.”
A Tough Battle for Minutes
Zwane has made a total of 14 appearances in all competitions for Amakhosi, but has yet to fully establish himself in the midfield. Makaab highlighted the unfortunate timing of his suspension, which led to him losing his spot in the team.
“He is still determined to fight for his place. What’s saddening is that he did really well. Unfortunately, he picked up a card and ended up being suspended and, sadly, has not regained his position.
“He’s got a great attitude and character. It’s a matter of working hard and really doing the best he can every single day. If things don’t change, then it makes sense to relook at the situation and his future.”
With Chiefs facing key decisions ahead of the next transfer window, it remains to be seen whether Zwane will get more opportunities to prove himself or if a move elsewhere will be considered.
