SA’s greatest striker of all time
Benni McCarthy is beyond reasonable doubt South Africa’s greatest ever striker. McCarthy turned out for Seven Stars before moving to the netherlands where he turned out for Ajax Amsterdam.
Benni then played for Celta Vigo in Spain before moving to FC Porto in Portugal. Under the guidance of Jose Mourinho the ex-Bafana Bafana star was instrumental in Porto’s superb run in the 2004 UEFA Champions League, which they won.
From Porto Benni turned out for Blackburn Rovers before turning out for West Ham. McCarthy would then end his career at Orlando Pirates.
Benni made 80 national team appearances scoring 32 goals.
