Shakes Mashaba Gets ABC Motsepe League Appointment. Former South African Senior Men’s National Team Coach Ephraim “Shakes” Mashaba has resurfaced in a new role in Mzansi third tier league side as the coach of ABC Motsepe league side Blue Lions FC.
This follows an unsuccessful stint with Witbank Spurs where Mashaba was unceremoniously shown the exit door after failing to turn around the Emalahleni club’s fortunes despite his high profile in South African football.
It somehow proved what critics have always highlighted that Mashaba is not cut for club football as he experienced mixed fortunes at Siyavutha with four losses, three draws and only two victories under his tutelage.
The Soweto-born mentor is expected to turn things around for Blue Lions FC side using his vast experience and leadership skills.
Mashaba has largely remained in the shadows since been unceremoniously shown the exit door after his run-ins with SAFA.
Mashaba refused to comment on whether his fall-out with SAFA has affected his job prospects in the fast lane of South Africa football.
Mashaba relationship with SAFA turned sour after his public spat purportedly aimed at SAFA President Danny Jordan soon after Bafana Bafana beat Senegal in a World Cup qualifier in November 2016.
Mashaba was dismissed after a disciplinary committee found him guilty of professional misconduct, gross insubordination, violation of Safa’s communications policy and bringing SAFA into disrepute.
Guiding a third-tier side in Mzansi is a massive slide down the football hierarchy for a coach with the best win/loss record at the helm of Bafana Bafana.
When quizzed on his new appointment in lower tier football, Mashaba who also has had scouting roles alluded of his non-discriminatory approach. “I’m available for anything, I’m available for anyone. Anyone who needs my help, I’d be available.” said Mashaba.
