Sibongiseni Mthethwa Could Be Heading to Sekhukhune United

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Sibongiseni “Ox” Mthethwa, who has found himself on the outskirts of first-team action this season, may soon be on the move. As his time at Naturena seems to be winding down, it is reported that Sekhukhune United, a club from Limpopo, has expressed interest in securing his services.

Sources close to both Chiefs and Sekhukhune United have confirmed that the PSL side is keeping a close eye on the 30-year-old midfielder. While Mthethwa has struggled to secure regular playing time under Chiefs’ new head coach Nasreddine Nabi, his talents have not gone unnoticed. Sekhukhune United, in particular, has been considering him as a valuable addition to their squad.

A source revealed that Sekhukhune United’s technical team is impressed with Mthethwa’s defensive abilities, highlighting that there are few midfielders in the league with his level of experience and skill. “They have been following him for some time now, and the team believes his addition could be of great value. He is a good player, and although he isn’t playing much at Chiefs, those who know him understand how solid he is,” the insider stated.

Sekhukhune is reportedly looking to strengthen their squad with experienced players, and Mthethwa’s name has been frequently mentioned as a potential target. The club is said to be particularly keen on a permanent transfer rather than a loan deal, though the option to start with a loan and negotiate a permanent move at the end of the season remains on the table.

In addition to Sekhukhune, there has been speculation about Mthethwa’s future, with former club Stellenbosch FC, AmaZulu FC, and Chippa United also thought to be interested in signing him. The transfer window in January could see further developments regarding his future.

Having played a fair number of games last season after joining Chiefs from Stellenbosch, Mthethwa’s experience in midfield would be a boost to any club. Sekhukhune United, who have previously shown interest in players like Sipho Mbule, seem ready to make a move for Mthethwa if the circumstances align.

As the January transfer window approaches, Mthethwa may soon be embarking on a new chapter in his career, potentially offering him a fresh start away from the high-pressure environment at Chiefs.
