Simo Dladla Critical of Swallows FC Players After Heavy Defeat! The Dube Birds were heavily thumped at home by The Cityzens.
Swallows FC lost 4-0 to Cape Town City in the MTN 8 at the Dobsonville Stadium last night. Interim head coach Simo Dladla didn’t understand why his players completely switched of.
Anyone who watched the game will admit that the score line is not a true reflection of the activities on the pitch.
The Dube Birds were commanding in the first 40 minutes of the game. However, it was the visitors who took the lead in the 43rd minute through Surprise Ralani.
Fagrie Lakay, another Ralani goal and Edmilson Dove made the score line look as emphatic as the match was not.
“I believe we had a good plan, and it was working, but it needed all the players around it to fully function. I felt we did everything to score in the first 40 minutes, but then we completely withdrew,” Dladla said to SuperSport TV after the match.
“Everything that we were doing right, we stopped doing it. If you find a player in the six-yard box controlling the ball and finishing alone, it tells a story.
“Second half, after making some changes, we started on a good footing, we put them under pressure, we hit the upright. If that went in, it would be a different story.
“But the team were not engaging in the one-v-ones, the tackles. I don’t know what happened, it is something to learn at this level.
“We did not have people willing to compete. We need to apply ourselves in the right way.” The stand in coach added.
