Sinesipho Mali Returns to Chippa United as Sporting Director

Chippa United have officially confirmed the return of renowned analyst and football mind Sinesipho Mali, who re-joins the Eastern Cape-based club in the newly created role of Sporting Director. This marks a significant step for the club ahead of the 2025/26 season, as it seeks to strengthen its footballing structures both on and off the pitch.

Mali, who is also currently serving as the head analyst for Bafana Bafana, is no stranger to Chippa United. He previously held a position at the club as a performance analyst and brings with him a wealth of experience gathered from some of South Africa’s top football institutions.

The 32-year-old was most recently with Sekhukhune United, where he played a dual role as an analyst and head of recruitment. His tenure at the Limpopo-based club saw Sekhukhune achieve their highest-ever points tally in the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season, an achievement the Chilli Boys hope he will replicate in the Eastern Cape.

“With Mali’s return, we are investing in leadership that not only understands the game but also the unique context of our region – ensuring alignment across recruitment, development, and performance, while driving purpose-led progress for the club and province,” the club said in a statement.

Mali’s return to Chippa is viewed as a strategic move by club management, especially as they aim to establish a clearer football identity and long-term sporting vision. His academic background and practical football knowledge have also earned him roles with Kaizer Chiefs, Banyana Banyana, and South Africa’s U23 national team.

Despite his new role at club level, Mali will continue serving as Bafana Bafana’s head analyst, a testament to his respected status in the national football setup.

He becomes part of a technical team led by Sinethemba Badela, who will serve as Chippa United’s head coach for the upcoming 2025/26 campaign.

As Chippa aim to push for a more competitive showing in the coming season, the return of Mali signals the club’s intent to blend technical expertise with regional insight — a formula they believe is key to long-term success.
