Sipho Chaine Reaches Million-Rand Milestone and Goalkeeping Landmark at Orlando Pirates

Sipho Chaine’s value at Orlando Pirates continues to rise, both on and off the pitch. The 28-year-old shot-stopper has seen his market worth stretch into the millions, while cementing his reputation as one of the most reliable goalkeepers in South African football.
Now in his fourth season with The Buccaneers, Chaine has evolved from a third-choice keeper to a consistent starter trusted with the number one jersey. His rise has been marked by patience, discipline, and steady improvement, qualities that have made him a key figure in the squad.
His performance numbers tell the story. Chaine recently reached a major milestone, recording his 50th clean sheet for Orlando Pirates during their 1-0 win over Polokwane City. The achievement reflects not only consistency but also a strong defensive record.
In the 2022/23 season, Chaine kept six clean sheets in 21 appearances. The following campaign, he doubled that number to 12 in 29 games. Last season, he took another leap forward with 21 clean sheets in 47 appearances. This season, he has already added 11 more, bringing his total to 50.
That figure comes from 113 matches, meaning Chaine has gone unbeaten in 44% of the games he has played for Pirates. In global terms, that’s an elite ratio, averaging a clean sheet nearly every second match.
He has conceded 81 goals in those 113 appearances, a strong record considering the high-pressure fixtures Pirates regularly face in domestic and continental competitions. His recent outing against Saint-Eloi Lupopo, despite conceding three goals, did little to dent his impressive overall record.
Chaine’s form has also earned him recognition at national level, where he now serves as deputy to Ronwen Williams in the Bafana Bafana squad. His performances in both club and international football underline his growing confidence and maturity in the role.
Inside the Orlando Pirates setup, Chaine’s dominance has shifted the goalkeeping hierarchy. Melusi Buthelezi has become a regular understudy, while Siyabonga Dladla and Ethan Visagie provide additional support options.
For Chaine, the combination of clean sheets, experience, and composure has not only solidified his place in the team but also boosted his market value. In a squad filled with attacking flair, his consistency at the back remains one of Pirates’ most valuable assets.
With 50 clean sheets and counting, Sipho Chaine stands as a model of steady growth and reliability, proving that hard work and focus can turn potential into success at the highest level.
