Bathusi Aubaas has seen his stock rise after recently making his Bafana Bafana debut. He has spoken about the adversities he had to overcome in his life.
The TS Galaxy midfielder was a surprise selection for Hugo Broos in the latest national team camp. Not only that, but he also started in midfield alongside Teboho Mokoena against Morocco last weekend.
He vindicated his selection with a solid display in the middle of the park. Since the game, he is highly spoken of to leave The Rockets for a higher ranked team.
However, it hasn’t been an easy ride to the top for him.
“My journey has never been easy,” Aubaas spoke, as per Sowetan.
“I lost my mother in 2002 and that’s where I started to hustle because I was left with my unemployed elder sister. I was selling frozen [lollies].
“Whenever I was at these big retailers to stock, it crossed my mind that I must steal because I had a friend who used to steal and sell things until I witnessed him being arrested on the spot. The day he was arrested, I told myself that I’d never try stealing and that’s when I started to focus more on football.” He added.
The midfielder reflected on the journey which took him to the PSL, where he has won two Nedbank Cup trophies. This was achieved for Free State Stars and TS Galaxy.
“One day our coach, Zinto [Sehularo], from Kuruman United organised us a game with Sundown’s satellite academy from Rustenburg and I was so good that afternoon. After the game Sundowns coach, a certain Phila, told me that they are taking me with.
“I joined the academy and school in Rustenburg. From there I was scouted by Orbit College in a tournament organised by Lucky Lekgwathi in Soshanguve,” the TS Galaxy star narrated.
“At Orbit College, they took me to Buya Msuthu, who were in the ABC Motsepe League, because they had a partnership. They gave me a salary of R3,500 every month since they knew no one was working at home… that’s when I started to support my family, which is my sister and her kids.” He added.
The midfielder is also looking to challenge himself at a bigger team. Bathusi Aubaas Left a Life of Crime for Football!
