South Africa Mourns The Loss of Dr Petrus Molemela
Bloemfontein Celtic founder and Life President Dr Petrus Rantlai Molemela has passed away at the age of 83. Dr Molemela sadly passed away on Sunday morning, leaving behind a legacy in South African football that stretches back to the early 80s. In 1984, Molemela bought the status of Mangaung United and renamed it to Bloemfontein Celtic.
Molemela was in charge of the team as chairman between 1984 and 2001. He decided to sell his shares to former player Jimmy Augousti in 2001. He remained loyal to the club and was often seen attending their games at different venues across the Free State province. Dr Molemela had the newly renovated Seisa Ramabodu Stadium named after him in October 2015 as an honour for his immense contribution in football.
Football fans and players took to social media to pay tribute to the man famously known as “Whitehead”, Dr Molemela. Other PSL teams also paid tribute to Dr Molemela, other dignitaries who paid their tribute include the minister of sports Fikile Mbalula and the president Jacob Zuma. He will be sadly missed but his teachings and contribution in South African football will live forever.
