South African Football Set To Return This October!
South African Football Set To Return This October! The PSL Chairman Dr Irvin Khoza announced that there will be no bio bubble when the action returns. It seems as teams will be able to host games in their own home stadiums as travel restrictions have been eased in South Africa.
The first taste of South African football we’ll be getting comes in the form of the MTN 8. The top 8 tournament will begin on the 17th of October 2020. The tournament will see Mamelodi Sundowns coming up against Bloemfontein Celtic, Kaizer Chiefs against Maritzburg United, Orlando Pirates to face off with Cape Town City and TTM against SuperSport United.
The DSTV Premiership will kick off on the 24th of October. The maiden DSTV Premiership will also have the R15M prize money that the ABSA Premiership awarded to the top side. Fixtures, dates and times are yet to be disclosed by the Premier Soccer League.
Other cup competitions like the Telkom Knockout and the Nedbank Cup are also yet to be disclosed. The logistics of these fixtures are still being configured at the moment, as the Telkom Knockout traditionally concludes just before the December break.
With the kick off to the new season being delayed, it is still unknown whether the Telkom Knockout will maintain this tradition.
Dr Khoza also mentioned that the beginning of the new season will also see fans still being unable to attend football matches. This matter is still very much contingent on the South African government as more details will follow soon. What we can report at the moment is that South African football is set to return this October!
