Mamelodi Sundowns Eye Defensive Reinforcements as Transfer Window Closes

Mamelodi Sundowns are actively working behind the scenes to bolster their defensive lineup before the transfer window slams shut, with fresh reports revealing their pursuit of key defensive targets.

According to earlier reports by Soccer Laduma, the Brazilians are nearing a deal to sign Stellenbosch FC’s left-back Fawaaz Basadien. However, sources close to the Siya crew reveal that Sundowns’ defensive recruitment ambitions may not stop there.

Reliable insiders with close ties to the Chloorkop-based club have disclosed that Sundowns have also shown interest in young Bafana Bafana defender Khulumani Ndamane—a player currently on the radar of Orlando Pirates as well.

“Now, it’s believed Sundowns have enquired about the young defender Ndamane. They are working on increasing the competition in defence and that’s why they are looking at Khulumani (Ndamane). The thing is that Orlando Pirates have also shown interest in him and that’s how things in football go. It’s a competition all the time, mainly between the so-called big teams,” an insider told Soccer Laduma.

Further insights indicate that Ndamane is being considered as a direct replacement for a defender who recently left Sundowns following the conclusion of his loan spell.

“Initially, they wanted to keep Lucas Suarez but after some consultation between management and the technical team they decided not to make the loan deal permanent. That’s why they now want Khulumani Ndamane. They are both left-footed central defenders. He could be a direct replacement for Suarez,” another source explained to the Siya crew.

At just 21 years old, Ndamane is a former Kaizer Chiefs development player who made a strong impression during his loan spell at TS Galaxy last season, earning significant game time and eventually making his senior debut for Bafana Bafana.

Efforts to reach Mamelodi Sundowns for an official comment on these developments were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
