Cape Town City FC Appoint Former Ajax & Galatasary Coach Jan Olde Riekerink

Struggling Absa Premiership side Cape Town City who this week parted ways with Benni McCarthy have appointed former Ajax and Galatasary coach Jan Olde Riekerink as their new coach.

The new gaffer is expected to turn around fortunes by taking the club forward and ease their relegation woes this season as they have recorded just one win out of the nine games played so far in the ABSA Premiership and have also fared badly in the domestic cup competitions.

The club took to social media time to announce the appointment of the Dutch coach and former professional player on Twitter and Instagram with caption “Another Era of Excellence Begins”.

Riekerink is expected to add some piece of silverware to the club trophy cabinet after the club last tasted success in the MTN8 Cup under predecessor McCarthy who however experienced a tough season this year.

Riekerink’s last coaching appointment was with Dutch club SC Heerenveen from 2018 to April 2019.

Cape Town City chairman John Comitis has always had a taste for Dutch flavour since his days at Ajax Cape Town and it comes as no huge surprise that the club have settled for the temperamental Dutch mentor.
