PSV Eindhoven Prioritize Relebohile Mofokeng Over Iqraam Rayners in Potential R120 Million Deal

Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven are reportedly narrowing their focus on Bafana Bafana star Relebohile Mofokeng in a potential blockbuster transfer that could see Orlando Pirates pocket upwards of R120 million. This comes after the Eredivisie side weighed up a move between Mofokeng and Mamelodi Sundowns striker Iqraam Rayners, both of whom have attracted interest from European clubs this year.
According to Siya sources close to the Orlando Pirates camp, PSV have shifted their attention to the 20-year-old Pirates winger, who has enjoyed a meteoric rise in South African football. Despite previously showing interest in Rayners, the Dutch club now appears to be keen on securing Mofokeng’s services as a long-term investment.
“R100 million is like a round figure. It’s more than that,” an insider revealed. “The amount they were negotiating for was initially R120 million. You know it’s not exactly what you want that you get, and that’s why they are talking about R100 million, but it’s believed to be more than that.”
The potential move is gaining momentum, with PSV’s recruitment team reportedly working alongside scouts based in the Netherlands who have been tracking both Rayners and Mofokeng. A second source added that Mofokeng’s youth and potential tipped the scales in his favour.
“There are different scouts from Holland who are believed to be working with recruiters for PSV. They enquired about Iqraam Rayners but it is believed that they are looking at a long-term investment now, and that’s why they have opened up negotiations with Orlando Pirates for Rele Mofokeng,” said the source.
Mofokeng, who has already tasted European football through a trial with Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers last year, was one of the standout performers in the 2024/25 season for Pirates. His performances earned him a nomination for the PSL Player of the Season award, cementing his status as one of the most promising young talents in South African football.
The winger’s pace, creativity, and composure in high-pressure matches have not only impressed domestically but also caught the eye of European recruiters looking for the next African breakout star.
While no deal has been finalized, PSV’s readiness to meet Orlando Pirates’ valuation could make this one of the biggest transfers in South African football history. Should the move materialize, it would also highlight the growing pipeline between the PSL and top European leagues, particularly for young, homegrown talent.
