The past season was one of the more complicated and demanding seasons in the history of the PSL. The coronavirus outbreak meant that organising the 2020/21 season would require an overall effort.
Teams and players had to constantly remember that there is a global pandemic, and therefore cannot socialise or be in public places.
Players often saw themselves ruled out of matches not because of injury or suspension but because they had tested positive for covid-19.
This was a season which started only in October. After the previous campaign only ended in September.
So, players and staff only had a few weeks to prepare for the following campaign. The PSL saw fit to remove the Telkom Knockout competition from this season’s calendar.
This was done to alleviate the pressure of matches on teams.
Matches had to be fitted in with fewer days available in the past campaign. So, players and staff finally have a few weeks to themselves.
They now have the opportunity to unwind and enjoy a pre-season after not having one in the last campaign.
