Teboho Mokoena Faces Yellow Card Suspension Ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns vs Orlando Pirates

Teboho Mokoena will miss Mamelodi Sundowns’ next domestic clash against Orlando Pirates due to a yellow card suspension, reviving frustrations for the midfielder following a controversial episode with Bafana Bafana earlier this year.
Mokoena, 28, was at the center of a disciplinary issue during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. He was mistakenly fielded against Lesotho while ineligible, which resulted in Bafana Bafana being docked three points. Despite the setback, the national team still advanced in qualifying.
At club level, Mokoena has accumulated four yellow cards this season, triggering an automatic one-match suspension. His fourth yellow came in the final minute of extra time during Sundowns’ Carling Knockout Last 16 victory over Marumo Gallants.
His previous cautions were recorded in matches against Chippa United in the league, Orlando Pirates in the MTN8, and Golden Arrows in league action.
As a result, Mokoena will be forced to watch from the stands when Sundowns face Pirates at Loftus Versfeld on November 1. Despite the domestic suspension, he remains eligible to play in the CAF Champions League tie against Remo Stars on Sunday, allowing him to contribute in continental competition.
The Tshwane giants will need to adjust their midfield setup in Mokoena’s absence, highlighting the impact of accumulated cautions on team selection. His return for Champions League action will be crucial as Sundowns aim to maintain momentum in both domestic and continental competitions.
