Kaizer Chiefs Coach Ernst Middendorp Makes SA PSL History

Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has made PSL history after being named Coach of the Month for the third month running. The German tactician has become the first coach to win the accolade three times in a row after receiving the award for November.

Chiefs started the campaign on fire as Middendorp went on to claim the Coach of the Month award for August and the combined award for September/October.

During the month, Kaizer Chiefs beat Chippa United, Stellenbosch FC and won their first Soweto Derby match against Orlando Pirates in five years scoring 9 goals and keeping 2 clean sheets in the process.

Middendorp is hoping to become the first coach to win a major trophy with Amakhosi since the league and cup double achieved under Briton Stuart Baxter in 2014/2015 season.

“We are very fortunate that we have a very specialised and professional technical team at the club. All the members of the technical staff are experts in their field. Not forgetting our supporters who have been coming to the games in numbers.” said 61-year old Middendorp.

“The players must get a lot of credit in addition, as we have always benchmarked ourselves on our last performance. We have not concentrated on any opponent but on getting better every game, based on continuous self-improvement,” he added.

Chiefs are currently top of the table with a 10-point cushion over their title rivals Supersport and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Amakhosi have one more league game left for 2019 which will be against Maritzburg United on the 22nd December away from home at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg.
