Tembo,SSU Asks For More…

MTN8 winning coach Kaitano Tembo of Supersport United has incessant battles being waged on two fronts. One regards a contract extension to remain at the helm of the club and the other regards fighting it out to claim more silverware as the club entertains defending champions Baroka FC in the Last 16 of Telkom Knockout this weekend.

Tembo who is in his final year of a two-year contract at Matsatsantsa a Pitori has an option for renewal.

Supersport United’s football manager Stan Matthews said the former Zimbabwean international defender has pleaded his appeal for contract renewal after laying claim to the MTN8 Cup.

“We are in discussions with him about a two-year extension. I think we all know that what happened to Eric Tinkler after he won the MTN8.”

“No one wants to get ahead of himself but Kaitano delivered us a trophy and every coach who delivers us a trophy will be offered an improved or an extended contract.” confirmed Matthews.

“He has earned (the right) to be offered an extension and we would like to improve it‚ but everything is in his hands.” further reiterated Matthews.

On the other hand, Supersport United defender Clayton Daniels has revealed that the players under the stewardship of Tembo are not resting on their laurels and are training relentlessly as they eye more glory after MTN8 triumph.

“But we’re also very much hungry still. The way we trained the other day was like we’ve never won anything. Coach (Kaitano Tembo) makes us run‚ so it’s a sign that we’re very much still determined to win more things.”

“Everyone is working to a common goal and we respect the coach and that’s why we buy into what he brings also.” said Daniels.

The veteran defender highlighted on the need to guard against complacency but adhere to team unity ahead of what promises to be an interesting clash at Lucas Moripe stadium on Saturday evening.

“Whether it’s a cup game or league game‚ we have to take everything that’s on the table. We’ll keep striving and keep working hard so that we show that we’re a top team in the country.” explained Daniels.

Tembo added to the chorus underpinning the club philosophy in the recent past.

“We are facing Baroka FC, they are a good side. We are fortunate that we playing at home but we have to work harder. We have to build from past success.” said Tembo.
