Thatayaone Ditlhokwe’s Future at Al‑Ittihad Uncertain Nearly a Year After Chiefs Exit

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe is reportedly facing an uncertain future abroad, almost eleven months after leaving Amakhosi. The Botswana captain departed the Soweto giants in February 2025 to join Libyan Premier League side Al‑Ittihad, reportedly for a fee around R15 million.

Ditlhokwe, who spent just one and a half seasons at Kaizer Chiefs after joining from the now-defunct SuperSport United in July 2023, has struggled to cement his place under Al‑Ittihad’s new management. Foot Africa reports that the defender is not in the plans of newly appointed coach Khaled Ben Yahia. The Tunisian coach, previously at MC Alger in Algeria, is said to be unimpressed with the left-footed central defender.

It remains unclear whether Ditlhokwe, affectionately known as TT, will be released or if the coach might reconsider his decision. His situation has drawn attention from multiple clubs, both in South Africa and across North Africa. Reports suggest that Betway Premiership sides, including Marumo Gallants and Siwelele FC, are closely monitoring his status.

Additionally, several North African clubs are believed to have shown interest in Ditlhokwe. Should Al‑Ittihad decide to part ways with the Botswana international, he is expected to have no shortage of suitors looking to secure his services.

The coming weeks will be crucial for Ditlhokwe as he seeks clarity on his playing future and aims to reestablish himself after a challenging spell in Libya.
