Emile Baron retired from professional football in 2013 after a terrible injury. Life has been extremely difficult for him ever since then.
His last match was for Bidvest Wits against Orlando Pirates in 2013, when he suffered a horrific career-ending injury in the match. He claims to have never received any insurance lump sum from the PSL, leaving him and his family in dire straits.
TV 2 Direkte, based in Norway, recently caught up with the footballer, to see his current living conditions.
“There is not much left of Emile Baron.” The publication reads.
“His legs are as thin as chair legs, the contours of his collarbone clearly visible behind his canary yellow shirt. Under the cap, the hair has started to fall out.
“His smile is also gone. The facial expression he was known to have, whether he was on the football field or on the town.
“He forces it occasionally, but only because he feels he has to.”
The goalkeeper lives in a small room with his wife and two children. The room is owned by hid brother-in-law’s girlfriend.
“The last few years have been dark. I have been depressed, angry, aggressive.” Baron admits.
Former club Lillestrøm have since gathered together, along with their fans, to raise funds to aid his current financial and living situation. A total of R2 million has been raised thus far.
The former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper is currently in the process of getting these funds. The Poverty-Stricken Life of Former Goalkeeper Emile Baron!
