The Relationship Between Rulani Mokwena And Gavin Hunt Is Ever-growing

It seems like Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena and SuperSport United’s new mentor Gavin Hunt have a constantly growing friendship. We usually see this on social media, from compliments messages to good wishes to one another and they seem to get along on and off-the-field.

Mokwena yesterday wished Hunt a “Happy Birthday” and teased him somewhat, calling him “Gavinovic”. Mokwena has immense respect for Hunt. He also displayed it when the Matsatsantsa coach congratulated Downs for winning the treble, Mokwena then responded by saying, “Thank you top coach. We can never reach your levels and now you know why we always kept asking you questions every time we met… see you next season.”

HUNT SAYS THE TIMING WASN’T RIGHT WHEN HE COACHED CHIEFS AND CHIPPA

Fresh from the box, Hunt is new at SuperSport and believes it’s good timing to take the reins. But looking back when he mentored Chiefs and Chippa, he thinks it wasn’t good timing. Last year, the four-time league winner coach was sacked by Chiefs before they appointed Stuart Baxter. He got the job at Chippa at the beginning of the last season and was axed again in December. He knows the feeling of being fired!

“An opportunity obviously came there [at Kaizer Chiefs and Chippa], timing is not always [right]. I thought when this came up the timing is right. It’s a good opportunity to go in, to build another team and build on what they had here before.

“[I start] at the back, I think they have a nucleus of a team, it’s not like we starting from scratch, what we need to do is obviously the younger players, because of the market, we need to look at those that came from the system last season, look at them, give them a good honest assessment and then see where, how and what we can do [in the market].”
