Themba Zwane to Spend Over a Month on the Sidelines Following Injury Setback

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Themba Zwane will be out of action for more than a month after sustaining a muscle injury during a Betway Premiership match against Magesi FC at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday. The injury is Zwane’s second of the season, following a setback in the first leg of the MTN8 semi-final against Orlando Pirates in August.
Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso confirmed the injury is a grade two muscle strain. “Themba Zwane has a muscle injury grade two. It will take him out of the team for a period of a little bit more than a month,” Cardoso said. The veteran midfielder will also miss Bafana Bafana’s upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Rwanda next month.
Cardoso emphasized careful management of Zwane’s recovery. “Let’s see how he can react to the treatment he will receive. He is a player we need to protect in terms of his return to training and play, so we must go easy to prepare him for the future because he is a very important player for us.”
Sundowns recently drew 1-1 against Marumo Gallants in Bloemfontein, leaving them just one point behind Betway Premiership leaders Sekhukhune United. Zwane’s absence will be a significant blow to the reigning champions as they approach crucial league and continental fixtures.
The club will now rely on other midfield options to maintain their unbeaten run while carefully planning Zwane’s rehabilitation to ensure a safe return.
