South Africa visits Zimbabwe for their first 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier today. New head coach is pleased with the state of the pitch for their encounter.

Broos has been labelled as an astute student of the game. As a result of this, he has studious in his research of African football.

In his doctrines, he has found Zimbabwean football pitches to be quite horrendous. However, it seems as if the hosts have adequately prepared for this game.

The pitch is in pristine condition.

“First of all, I am surprised by the pitch,” said Broos during his pre-match press conference on Thursday.

“I saw a few games of Zimbabwe from the past and the pitch was very bad but now it is fantastic, and I am happy about that”.

The English leagues have banned their players from travelling to countries which they have labelled as risky coronavirus areas. This includes most African countries.

As a result, some of Zimbabwe’s best players will not be able to participate in their two qualifiers. This includes the likes of Marvellous Nakamba, Teenage Hadebe, Tendayi Darikwa, Jordan Zemura, Brendan Galloway, Ovidy Karuru and Jimmy Dzingai.

“A few weeks ago, when we started preparing the team for this important match, we knew that it was going to be a tough game and today is not only tough, but it is also risky.

“It is risky because we know that Zimbabwe now has problems with the release of players and that means some of their important players won’t be here for this match.

“So, for us this is a risky situation, we could underestimate our opponents on Friday because their important players are not here. We will not do that even if we know that Zimbabwe will not be with the players that they expected.” He added.
