Thembinkosi Lorch Receives R2000 Bail – REACTION. In the wake of Thembinkosi’s swift release from prison; South Africans went mad. Initially, people were angered by the leniency of the bail Lorch received.
However, talk has turned to how Lorch has to be used as an example for perpetrators of GBV (gender-based violence). Lorch was arrested on Monday morning after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend Nokuphiwa Mathithibela.
This incident as come in a time when South Africa as a whole is trying to see an end to gender-based violence. So, when a high-profile personality like Orlando Pirates winger Thembinkosi Lorch is implicated in a GBV case; people want to see justice.
Arguably, the public wants to see more than justice, but people want to see Lorch used as an example. Treatment of this Lorch case will be an indication of how seriously or, lack thereof, that the South African justice system ranks GBV.
In what could be seen as a bit too much, other members of the public are calling for the conclusion of Lorch’s career. At just 27 years old.
Thembinkosi Lorch is due to appear in court on the 18th of October.
