Thembinkosi Lorch Shines Again for Wydad AC Amid National Team Snub

South African star Thembinkosi Lorch continues to impress for Wydad AC, keeping his case alive for a recall to Bafana Bafana. The 32-year-old, also known as ‘Nyoso’, found the back of the net once more in his team’s weekend clash against Olympique Safi, demonstrating his eye for goal and influence on the pitch.

Lorch opened the scoring in the 26th minute, reacting quickly to a loose ball in the box and striking it into the bottom corner past the goalkeeper. The goal marked his fourth in the Botola Pro 1 Inwi and his fifth across all competitions this season. His contributions helped Wydad AC reach the top of the Moroccan league table, with 20 points from eight matches.

Despite his excellent form abroad, Lorch remains outside Hugo Broos’ national team plans. The winger, who last represented South Africa in 2022, was omitted from the squad for the recent friendly against Zambia. Broos defended his decision, stating that Lorch’s performances in Morocco, while impressive, do not align with his plans for the future of Bafana Bafana. “Now, he is playing good in Morocco, but you have to look as it is. This is not the future, I am very sorry. This is not the future. For Lorch, for the moment, I don’t see any reason why I should take him for the team, even if he has good performances in Morocco,” Broos explained.

Off the field, Lorch celebrated his latest goal with a social media post, referencing a lyric from the song “Lorch” by Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa. The post, “Insimbi yak’dala, Ngiyi- Tazz mina,” showcased his confidence and connection with fans, reflecting his strong personality and standing in South African football culture.

Lorch’s continued scoring and consistent performances in Morocco underline his quality and experience. While he remains on the periphery of the national team, his displays for Wydad AC ensure he remains a player fans and pundits alike will continue to watch closely, hoping for a future return to the Bafana Bafana setup.
