The Carling Black Label Cup will see players received huge R100 000 cash prize for a Man of the Match performance. TS Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi has praised the new tournament for this.

The cup replaces the Telkom Knockout, which stopped in 2019 because of the coronavirus outbreak the following year. The Carling Black Label Cup used to be played between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs for many years but will now see all 16 teams in the DSTV Premiership participate this season.

“To be honest, I really like the R100,000 prize money to players as the Man of the Match.,” Sukazi told members of the media at the launch of the tournament.

“Well done to Carling. Finally, our players will get a sense of recognition, never mind the motivation. So, that’s great.

“By far, if you ask me what’s the prize money for the DStv Premiership Man of the Match, I will say I don’t know. I only know the trophy.

“Now, Carling has come to say here is R100,000. They deserve it. This is a tough league and there’s a lot of tough work being put in.

“So, where I’m a bit concerned, of course, I feel sorry for teams that will play Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. I’m not sure about Mamelodi Sundowns because it’s us.”
