A look at the top three foreign based defensive midfielders to play in the ABSA premiership would seem to suggest Zimbabwe as the destination of choice when it comes to snapping up D-links.

Tinashe Nengomasha who was nicknamed “father” during his days at Kaizer Chiefs is undoubtedly one of the leading defensive midfielders to feature in the ABSA premiership. With an ability to read opponents moves, Nengomasha had an incredible work ethic during his days with Amakhosi. Going forward Nengomasha was also an asset for the glamour boys.
2. Willard Katsande
Willard Katsande is another top defensive midfielder to play in the PSL. The Zimbabwean midfielder who just recently won the PSL player of the month award for January has a great work rate coupled with a good range of passing.
3. Esrom Nyandoro
Esrom Nyandoro served Mamelodi Sundowns with distinction. Nyandoro played well in the central defensive midfield role. Apart from his defensive duties Esrom also came up with vital goals for Sundowns.
