AmaZulu beat Cape Town City 2-1 in the MTN 8 over the weekend to make it past the quarterfinals. Head coach Brandon Truter is grateful to have made it to the last 4.

Usuthu went into the match on the back of an uncharacteristic 1-0 loss at home to Golden Arrows in the DSTV Premiership. This defeat had threatened to diminish the good start they have had in the season.

The visitors took the lead through a fabulous strike by Augustine Kwem. The Cityzens equalised through Khanyisa Mayo.

Veteran Lehlohonolo Majoro then won the match deep in extra-time for AmaZulu.

“Yeah, it’s always difficult coming to Cape Town, playing Cape Town City here. We knew what was expected, we knew City will move the ball and will dominate position,” the former Swallows FC coach said to the club media.

“What was clear even from Wednesday, after that result [defeat to Lamontville Golden Arrows], we had to win. I’m just thankful and happy for the boys to change their mentality coming into this game.

“And the will and the want to win tonight was awesome. Yeah, we managed to get the first goal and then conceded at a very crucial moment and then came in half-time.

““Then we had to start all over again, but I’m thankful for the boys, they stuck to the plan. They knew exactly what we will need to do to get the result today as well,” he continued.

“Some of them actually ran their socks off tonight and I can’t for more, but for us, it’s 120 minutes, its sore muscles, some injuries, we have to get back to Durban, recover,

“Look at what we have available for our next game and luckily we have some time until we get to our next game.” The coach added.
